Emergency Lighting

The installation of Emergency lighting is a mandatory in most businesses. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) 2005, which came into force in October 2006, charges the responsible person in control of non-domestic premises and the common areas of a House in Multiple Occupancy (HMO) with the safety of everyone in the building, whether working, visiting or living there.

Emergency lighting is part of the fire safety provision of a building. The legal requirement is that non-domestic buildings must be safe at all times, even if mains power failure occurs.

Planning your emergency lighting installation can be confusing and it can be easy to miss out important areas/locations in your premises. Let Batkin Electrical Services take the headache away by designing your emergency lighting for you. You can be assured that our design and installation will be delivered by fully qualified electricians and will ensure conformity with BS 5266-1 (Code of practice for emergency lighting).

For existing installations, after three years, the emergency lighting unit should be assessed by a qualified electrician or a member of the ECA or NICEIC. Batkin Electrical Services can conduct an inspection of the emergency lighting installation at your premises to ensure its compliance with the latest British Standard. Any faults will be fixed and actions taken will be recorded in the emergency lighting log book. It is advised that these checks are then repeated annually thereafter.
